Ethical Issues Of Gender Selection The idea and practice of gender selection has become increasingly popular in recent years and with recent advances in technology. Currently three methods of gender selection are available, each one varies in degree of technology, precision, and of course cost. Staining technology and sperm sorting are the first two options. PGD, being the most costly, is also the most debatable of the three techniques.
PGD was not originally performed for gender selection, but instead as a way to identify embryos that show signs of genetic disorder. The aim was to minimize the risk that couples with a history of genetic disorder would have a child with genetic or chromosomal abnormalities. While PGD is commonly used for the purpose of reducing the risk of genetic abnormalities, the real is issue is when it is used purely for the purpose of gender selection.
The cause of concern is the problems that occur resulting from discriminating against one gender over another. The problem is that that most couples seek this procedure to have boys. Unnecessary gender selection raises concerns of creating and sustaining a gender discriminatory society. Supporters argue that it would only increase the value of women due to more competition among men. Those who oppose the idea do so on the basis that it would not create value for women but the exact opposite. This type of free-will creates an artificial imbalance and is a breeding ground for larger issues.
Religious and ethical views frown on individuals trying to play God and the issue that children are now becoming marketable commodities. After choosing the gender, you don't have to stop there, you can choose eye and hair color also, in essence you can design your own baby. Another ethical issue with PGD is what to do with the remaining embryos that do not fit the desired criteria. For those who believe that life has actually started at this stage, it becomes an issue of throwing away or aborting a life.
To avoid falling into the ethical trap, many clinics only perform PGD for health precautions, which includes gender selection for the purpose of avoiding sex-related diorders. However, with increasing demand, more and more facilities are offering gender selection regardless of reason. Couples who have chosen gender selection should not be singled out as being unethical because often times the decision is simply based on personal preference or societal factors without considering the ethical issues involved. For those suffering from infertility, the issue is less likely to arise, as value is placed on being able to conceive a child whether male or female.

QUESTION:
Does anyone know of any good sites/blogs that have sewing tutorials or patterns for boys clothing?
I love to sew and have found some great blogs that have wonderful tutorials and patterns for girls dresses, skirts, etc and I love them but I was wondering if anyone knows of sites for boys clothes; not baby boys for like tween/teen. The girl tutorials are very modern, funky, and boutique-ish, I was looking for the same type trendy stuff for boys, like skater, punk, surfer, etc. Thanks in advance for your help!

ANSWER:
I posted this question to Craftovision. This sewing couple was previously with the now defunct Threadbangers site, which was really cool. They are branching into some different things now and maybe they can help. Hope you don't mind. Maybe you could start a site with your young man.

QUESTION:
Boys baby boutique? Wanting to know the steps of opening up a boutique?
Now please do not slay me I am just starting to do some research but I love yahoo real answers, so I wanted to here from you guys. This so far is an idea, I have this reoccuring dream of my owning my little baby store but dedicated to boys. I guess maybe because I am tired of going to clothing stores and there is a whole section for girls and then a little tiny section for boys and I still can't find anything. I was thinking of having a store where it sold a range of styles that mothers would like to dress there son. Preppy, punk, urban, etc. I hate having to travel from one side of town to the other just to find what I am looking for my kid, and I wonder if I am the only mom with these issues for her son. I would include othe misc. stuff like pumps, and cool strollers etc. Anywho as I said it was an idea and I dont even have a clue or the finances to know where to start. Any help? Do i opt for a business loan? Is it hard to aquire one? Do I need a business license? lol or should I just stop while I am it because it is just not going to happen? I live in Atlanta so I figured this is a good location.-
ANSWER:
We all have to have dreams. Once in a blue moon, there really is a good answer on yahoo. You need an education. Why don't you talk to some small business owners in your area. People that you may have met or done business with in the past. It could be a bakery, a jeweler, any business besides a baby boutique. Many of the costs and problems are similar with all businesses. There are a million things to consider, that you or I can't even imagine. This would be a good start. Take one of these people out for lunch, make sure that you treat. It will be the cheapest education that you ever bought. Good Luck!
