QUESTION:
I'm about to start making stylish baby clothes to sell -I need some input on what other parents would like...
So far I thought about doing bright, bold artsy fabrics like a 1960's era - and I noticed the new fad of expensive designer baby clothes that almost look like what adults wear- would you buy something like that if it were a much less price??? I know I would that's why i want to make them and sell out of my house and eventually get a website-I already have a sewing machine & i'm going to buy the materials this weekend - I'm also gonna make hats and bonnets- Tell me what you would like to see in baby fashions ??? your input and suggestions are appreciated- thanks

				ANSWER:
First of all, whatever you make, make sure it's easy to change the diaper without making the baby totally naked. Keep in mind that mom or dad has to change this little one in a public restroom and they can be very drafty. So put snaps and buttons on the outfits so that only the diaper area is exposed. After that, just use old fashion magazines from the past. Go to your library and see if they have some old books about styles of the past. Since you want to do the 60's, keep in mind that tied dyed cloth and bell bottoms were all cool. Also ponchos, peasant blouses, Nehru jackets, head bands, flowers for the hair, smock tops, and colorful patches on jeans were all the rage. I still want a pair of white Go-go boots! In case you want to know what those are, they are nothing more than those short little boots that the majorette in a marching band wears. But all the girls had to have them in the mid 60's. I truly hope that your business is very successful. <*)))><

Baby Announcement Wording Ideas
Baby Announcement Wording Ideas

After having a baby, you suddenly have plenty of new responsibilities to worry about. Having to worry about your Birth Announcements Wording Ideas, Verses and Sayings shouldn't be one of them. However, there are plenty of issues you're probably thinking about and you do want to get everything just right on these baby birth announcements. Here are some tips to help you.

Important Tips for Birth Announcements Wordings, Verses and Sayings

Generally, you'll want to include some basic information in the birth announcement wording. For example, you would normally list the weight and height of the baby at birth on the card. Today, some parents are a bit hesitant to do this if they have a very small or very large baby. However, since mostly friends and relatives will be receiving the announcements, this doesn't seem to be something with which most parents should be concerned.

The time and location of the delivery is usually also part of the birth announcement wording. Don't worry if you didn't have the baby in a hospital but instead chose an alternative spot, such as your home. There's no reason not to put that information on the card, too. Remember most of the people who receive your announcement will already know this information anyway.

Additionally, most parents tend to include the name of the new baby. Now there may be a reason why you don't want to add this information. For example, if you are saving the name revelation for the christening ceremony you might want to add this to the baby announcement wording. For example, you might write: "The new name of our bundle of joy will be announced at the christening ceremony later this month." Of course, that means you'll probably want to invite all of your friends and family who receive these cards to the actual christening event as well.

Birth Announcements Wordings, Sayings and Verses and Other Concerns

Generally, the most confusing part of the wording is how to address the issue of the parents' names. Although this isn't always complicated, some couples just don't work within the standard etiquette rules. That can make the wording a bit challenging sometimes. Here are some basic rules that will help you decide how to include your names on the announcement.

If you're a traditional married couple, you can choose one of two methods: Mr. and Mrs. John Doe or John and Jane Doe. Many women prefer the latter.

If you're a single parent, you should only add your name unless the other parent is actively involved or if you are widowed. In the latter case, add the deceased parent's name in this way: "and the late John Doe."

If you're recently divorced, you should both send out your own individual card with separate baby announcement wording. It's fine to include the other parent as well but keep the names separate in the birth announcements wording.

				ANSWER:
I highly suggest if your looking for a good source of good clothing at a great price. If you don't mind used clothing check out your local area twins clubs. You can use links at nomotc.org to find your states page and from there local area clubs. All clubs use consignment sales as a means of accruing money for the clubs use and helping their moms. These sales are huge and are some of the best prices you'll find for used clothing and other infant/childhood items (even cheaper than a lot of consignment shops). Sales occur usually once or twice a year depending upon the club. Other suggestions retail would be (on line) gymboree, baby gap, janie and jack, baby style and some of the Osh Kosh stuff offered at target is very cute.

			QUESTION:
Clever and Inexpensive ways to advertise for Infant/Toddler Apparel Website?
I would like a few suggestions on ways to advertise my future Infant and Toddler Apparel website. The site will sell apparel(new&used), accessories, and educational items.

I have decided to use mailers, a flyer(lower price than ad) in the local newspaper, pay per click programs and myspace and 360 groups. What other options can I consider?

THANX!!!

				ANSWER:
Getting traffic is a combination of a lot of things. The key to success is to create great content that visitors want to use, search engines will love and other websites will naturally link to. Of course, it's easier said than done.

You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com

Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement - if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important -- and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more - that's additional traffic that you get for FREE!

Recommend Site Scripts (various) http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Big Nose Bird Recommend this Site http://bignosebird.com/carchive/birdcast.shtml
CGI Resource Index http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html

3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com's "Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day." http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as 0 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

6. Improve your conversion. Getting visitors is one thing; getting them to buy your products is a whole different story. Read the article " How To Sell More on the Web: 30 Tips To Increase Conversion Rates For An Ecommerce Site " http://www.powerhomebiz.com/092006/ecommerce.htm for tips on how to improve your conversion rates.

			QUESTION:
Holiday clothes for baby and toddler?
My husband and I have a four year old girl and a two year old boy, and we love doing the cheesy holiday photo to include with our Christmas cards to friends and family. I'm kind of stumped this year for holiday clothes and fashion dresses for babies and toddlers. I'm sick of Target and wouldn't set foot in Walmart. I'm always open to shopping online (so much more convenient!). Do you have any recommendations?

				ANSWER:
Baby Box has a great selection of everyday clothing and pretty dresses that would look nice in a picture. My think is that I don't want to just spend money for a dress that they will never use but to just wear in a pictures. So I would get it now so that you can wear it for the pictures and then for Thanksgiving and any other gatherings you may have. I like getting nice dresses that are quality and you are right...Walmart is great for play clothes but not for nice holiday or fashion dresses.

christmas present for toddler with everything?
does anyone have any good gift ideas for little boys age 1 and 2? their mom claims they have too many toys and probably wouldn't be happy with more in the house (and i don't want to buy them clothes)
thanks! the potty would be awesome but a super cool one's a little out of my price range
you guys all have awesome ideas thank you

				ANSWER:
I know it's no fun but you could always invest the money in a cd or savings bond? They will love it when they go to college or start there own family. I have a 2 yr old and he has EVERYTHING so my sister in laws started putting money into an account for him for Christmases and Birthdays. So they have something to open you could get them coloring books or books for their age level. My son cannot get enough of them. Good luck and I am sure they will like anything you give them.

			QUESTION:
What do you get a 3 year old boy who is very active and destroys toys?
My son is 3 years old and he is the most active toddler I have ever seen? Any thing we get him he doesn't like to play with, because he has either destroyed it or lost the pieces to it.. I want to get him something for christmas that he will play with or use alot. I just don't know.....any ideas>? No clothes or stuff like that, i want something that he will enjoy yet not break.

				ANSWER:
My 16 month old is like that! And so was my daughter. Blocks. The wooden or heavy cardboard. For one they are not that expensive. And your son can build things AND destroy them. Good fun all around. Or just give him a big box. They always like that too. (Seriously. I gave my ADHD daughter a box to play with, she made it into a house. After she was bored, she broke it.) Matchbox cars are good too. They are really cheap, and kids can crash them into each other and it feels like they are destroying them. And I suggest some nice realaxing bubble bath for you.

			QUESTION:
How do you handle Christmas presents for your kids?
My husband and I always disagree about how to handle Christmas presents for our boys. My husband does everything big and wants every Christmas to be memorable. I am happier with a more modest Christmas and hate paying off Christmas debt the rest of the year.

Our boys are 13, 11 and 2. Though we have a Christmas club account that had 00, we've already tapped that out. I'm ready to be done, but husband still wants more. He's already picked out new ski jackets which will run us around 0 and was talking about needing to go to the mall.

We spent 0 on our toddler, which I find excessive. Our older boys got ski passes, new skis, boots, bindings and gear, video games and movies and some new school clothes, altogether totaling 80.

I get sick when I think of dropping over a thousand dollars on Christmas presents for my kids. My husband has a point, however, about how we do want the boys to be able to ski and that skiing is just very expensive.

My problem is that, only our older son really needed new ski gear this year as he is headlong in puberty and having constant growth spurts. My husband thinks it isn't fair to get our older boy cool new stuff if we don't get cool new stuff for our middle son as well.

While I sort of agree in principle, my parents always taught us: life isn't fair, you won't always get stuff at the same time your siblings do, but you'll always get what you need when you need it. I think this is a better lesson for our kids, but husband came from a much better off family than I did. His Christmases were always extravagant and he and his brother always received the same presents more or less, whether they needed them or not.

So, long story short, my questions are:

1) How much do you spend on Christmas each year?

2) If you have multiple children, do you worry about keeping it all equal or do you focus more on filling needs?

3) Do you and your spouse/partner share the same philosophy on gift giving and, if not, how do you overcome that?

4) Are you willing to break out the charge card at Christmas?
I'm glad to hear that I'm not scrooge! (or at least the only one).

My husband has a big heart. He loves to see them smile on Christmas. We also always donate old toys to family/friends in need or at our church's Christmas outreach. We also spend part of our Christmas volunteering at the local Salvation Army, so our boys do know how good they have it!

Our boys are not this spoiled the rest of the year. Mom usually runs the finances and the buying; dad's only really involved on holidays.

I think I'm going to put my foot down on further Christmas spending. I tell him every year that the Christmas club is it, and every year he manages to sneak a few "extra special" presents in.

				ANSWER:
Here is something to think about...

I am the survivor of a childhood where every magical want was fulfilled. Though grown and way past that kind of life, I can't tell you how horrible the days after Christmas are for me.

I wake up on Christmas morning and a tiny little part of me wants to dive in and start ripping package after package apart to the point of physical exhaustion. Instead, I sit and open my four or five packages and no matter how wonderful the gifts are, I feel terrible. I had just spent the last couple weeks wrapping tons of gifts and I get all excited to open my own, but I have this giant letdown when reality hits. It lasts for a good two days.

My husband is the same as yours. I was never able to get it through his thick head what he did to our own children. I hope you are able to, but don't count on it.

I would suggest that you bring the kids shopping to pick out toys for Toys For Tots or some other similar program to make sure that they understand that it doesn't work this way for everyone. I did that and my grown kids are the better for it. I think it helped.

I know that it isn't the answer you were hoping for, but I think it's the more important problem. Maybe you could ask your own kids to pick one of their own gifts to give to charity and then do it.

			QUESTION:
Where do you buy infant apparel at wholesale?
Ok, I have 3 children the most recent is a boy, and it is depressing how boring little boy clothes are! There is nothing unique or fun about little boy clothing. My friend and i are considering creating our own line of little boy clothing and selling it at markets and craft events. But this is new to both of us and I was wondering where the best places to order wholesale materials from is?

				ANSWER:
No doubt you should avoid buying from resellers as it would be expensive considering you plan to buy in wholesale. What you should opt for is get in touch with any local manufacturer or supplier. You can find the list of wholesale suppliers from B2B websites. These B2B websites help buyers and suppliers to find each other easily. Here is the list of suppliers that you can contact http://www.hellotrade.com/business/apparel-garments/ and http://www.teonline.com/apparel-garments/kids-clothing/

Here is a comprehensive list of where to submit your articles http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=AhzreGmnCUicOoyedqypscUjzKIX?qid=1006022407481

7. Post a link to your site for free where it is allowed (always read the Terms of Use). Examples are:

Bedroom Slippers As A New Childrens Fashion Accessory Instead of watching your children run about the house in their bare feet, let them wear slippers. They are the newest fashion accessory and manufacturers are treating your kids to a wide variety of styles.

Bedroom slippers seem like a thing of the past. Who wears them nowadays? Slippers have made a comeback and for small feet. Girls and boys can walk around the house in comfort with a pair of bedroom shoes.

Traditional slippers are soft and fuzzy and come in pink or blue. Kids can choose from open or closed toe varieties. These slippers have a thin rubber sole and soft padding inside. They are easy to slip on and off. Girls are the primary target for these.

For the little boy in your home, there are slippers made for him that resemble the ones his father might wear. The bedroom slippers look more like slip-on shoes with corduroy uppers for durability. Fleece on the inside surrounds their feet in warmth.

Dont worry. Younger children also have bedroom slippers that fit their fashion needs. Your toddler can wear their favorite Disney and barnyard characters on their feet. Choose from plush cows or woolly sheep. For the princess in your family, she can have Princess Ariel mermaid slippers.

The best thing about these bedroom slippers is that they resemble the characters. When not wearing them, the kids can use them as play toys. Be careful to choose slippers for children that have non-slip soles. The name of the shoe refers to slipping feet in not slipping down in them.

For the girls, coordinate their bedroom slippers to their sleeping attire. Some sets come together. You can purchase the matching slippers when you get the outfit. When your little girl is older, purchase a pair of spa slippers so that their feet can relax in comfort. The soles are so thick it is like walking on clouds.

Slippers shaped like booties are great for winter fun around the house. The booties protect the feet and the ankles from drafts. The outer covering is waterproof so when there are spills in the kitchen, your childs footwear wont be ruined.

For children who love sandals, choose a pair of bedroom slippers that look like sandals. They have open toes and heels but with a soft cushion inside and beautiful designs for her or for him.

Bedroom slippers are the new accessory for your children. Cradle their feet in warmth when they are relaxing at home.

			QUESTION:
How do you get mold out of kids cloths?
I have two kids that go to daycare. When there cloths get dirty they put them in ziploc bags. I can't afford to do laundry everyday nor do i have the time. I work full time and am a mother of two with a husband that works full time and takes care of his dad and grandmother. So when they come home i take the cloths out of the diaper bag and put it to the side but when i go to do laundry they have mold stains on it and i can't get it out!!!!!please help this is getting expensive and i can't afford to be buying cloths like that!!!

				ANSWER:
Not sure where you are located - here I use a soaking bucket and Nappy San or generic version - it's a product for soaking and sanitising cloth nappies/diapers. If you can find something like that, you'd probably be fine.

Otherwise, open the ziplock bags when you get home and unpack the diaper bag and just dump the clothes straight into a soaking bucket with some water and detergent. It should at least prevent them from staying damp dark and dirty which would be causing the mould.

Good luck!

			QUESTION:
Retro baby clothes, a good idea?
I would really like to know other people's opinions on whether retro style remake baby clothes would sell? I know I have searched the net and cannot find many good looking remakes of the cute long jackets and bonnets and dresses and such. I ended up having to buy a few patterns from the 30's and 50's to make some outfits for my cousin's baby. I was just wondering, do you think it would be worth my time to try to make them? I love to sew and am always coming up with what in my opinion is cool stuff, but I'm really into antiques and retro style things to begin with so yeah.... normal people (especially moms) please let me know what you think of the idea. Thanks!!

				ANSWER:
If you want to make kids' clothes for sale in the US, please acquaint yourself with the requirements under CPSIA and CPSC (which are still being written). The law has some big teeth, and is definitely loaded in favor of large producers.

			QUESTION:
What sort of unusual, cool, or retro embroidered designs would you want to see on baby bibs and clothes?
This is an honest marketing research question, not spam. Since I'm going to be a grandfather in about 5 months, I thought it might be fun to offer unusual designs for baby bibs and baby clothes. The problem is that whatever I think is cool and hip might not be cool and hip to others.

For example, do people like "cutesy" baby stuff, like "I love grandma," or do they prefer Gothic designs? How important is being able to add personalization (names or monograms) to the products?

I would like to get as many responses to this question as possible, so I can make a wide variety of options available.

To get an idea of the very few concepts I have currently, look at http://www.coolbabycool.com.

Thanks!

				ANSWER:
Very nice!
Go for the personalization, for sure. So many people are using unusual baby names these days, or unusual spellings, so this will be very much in demand.
What I personally would love to see would be celtic stuff...knots, spirals, and illuminated style letters, like the fancy capitals found in storybooks. Also celtic animal art.
Can you do penguins? those are my son's favorite. Some kind of baby bat would be good for goth babies.
Love Bill Haley, too. Could you do Buddy Holly? Another good retro design would be those stylized spotted mushrooms from the 70's.
You could also consider doing those ballet slippers to black and adding some details to make them look like Irish dance shoes, that would be great.
Careful about the fonts, though, while the variety is great you don't want to leave yourself open for any copyright infringement suits.

7 Sexual Intercourse Positions and tips to Get Pregnant With a Baby Boy
It's becoming more commonly recognised that we now have all-natural solutions to control your child's gender or sex.
Among the easiest worth mentioning techniques is applying certain sexual acts or sexual positions.
I am going to go over the best sex positions for you to utilize when attempting to get pregnant or better yet get pregnant with a baby boy.
I'll also explain the science behind why this works.

Why does the sexual position you employ when trying to get pregnant affects the sex of the newly born baby:

Almost every one knows that most love-making positions can affect whether or not one has a boy or possibly a girl, but not everyone truly realizes why it is this way.

The answer is simple.

There are two chromosomes
The Y (boy) chromosome and X chromosome (girl)
Newborns gender is determined by the way these sperm chromosomes reach up to and fertilizes the egg .
Both chromosomes race towards the egg, but each one of them has different qualities.

Y (boy) sperm are very fast, but at the same time they are extremely weak.

X sperm are not as fast, but they are much more stronger.

If you are trying to conceive a boy, it is important to know this fact and understand that you will need to minimize the effect of the Y sperm's being weak.
These fellas start to deteriorate and die quickly. So, you'll want to do a number of things to help compensate just for this.
The sexual positions that you choose is one way to control this.

The most effective Intercourse and sexual positions for a baby boy pregnancy:

1. To Get pregnant having a male baby, you'll want to choose a position which positions the sperm as close as possible towards the egg.
This gives the fragile little guys a shorter journey and restricts their time in a hostile vaginal setting.

2. The Best regarded position to get the sperm as close as possible to the cervix is the rear entry position in which the woman is usually lying on her stomach, and places her knees at a sitting position.

3. An additional variation will have the woman sitting upright with bent knees over the edge of a bed or on the floor.
A pillow can help to raise the pelvis even more for a much deeper deposit.

4. Many think that the missionary position is good for a girl pregnancy which is true when you are using it in the conventional way.
Yet a bit of variation on this technique can achieve very deep penetration that is effective for conceiving a boy.
If the woman bends and holds her knees or places her legs at the man's neck or shoulders (sometimes called the anvil position), then the proper penetration can be easily achieved.
Again, using a pillow to raise your pelvis can make this even more effective.

Additional actions you'll want to do whenever trying to conceive a baby boy:

Sexual positioning is only one part of the system, but it's not the only part. You'll need to make every thing you can to allow the Y sperm the very best possibility, taking into consideration their general weakness.

5. Timing of Sexual Intercourse
To accomplish this you can experience sexual intercourse during the day as well as the day following ovulation.
You'll need a reliable ovulation predictor to make sure of success since accuracy is vital at this point.
You simply can't just guess.

6. Alkalizing Your Body with Lower Acid Diet .
Don't forget, Y sperm won't tolerate a hostile atmosphere and a high PH and acidity is about as hostile as you will get.
You are able to achieve a lower PH by going on a lower acid diet plan .
The most effective and best way to start is to test out your PH using testing strips that you can get at a health and fitness food retail outlet or on the web.

Then, you will know what steps you need to take to achieve your perfect PH.

7. Alkalizing your Genitals and Douching:
In addition to lower acid diet plan, there are douche options which will perform best to alkalize your genitals.

You can use whichever method or incorporate them all.
Testing and combining them all will still help to a more quicker, extra significant outcome to conceive your son.

			QUESTION:
Where to get gender neutral clothes and things?
My husband and I want to be surprised and not find out the baby's gender until birth. So we'll need to buy gender neutral things for the baby. Where can I find reasonably priced gender neutral things for babies mainly clothes? I know most people these days find out the gender of their baby while pregnant and are not surprised. Thanks!

				ANSWER:
carters brand usually has a lot of yellow, green, white etc clothes in their newborn collection, they are often on good sales at big department stores, or look for an outlet center near you.

			QUESTION:
Parents who did not find out the baby's sex beforehand, what did you do about baby clothes?
My husband really wants to be surprised. I would rather find out, but I wouldn't be able to keep it a secret from him The problem I have is that I was walking through the baby section today and realized there are NO gender-neutral baby clothes anymore! At first I thought we'd have to get everything in green, yellow and red, but colors aren't the problem - everything has either ruffles or a truck on it. So I'm worried if we really don't find out until the birth that we'll have to buy both boy and girl newborn clothes (even the onesies were definitely one or the other unless they were plain white!) and have to put off buying anything else until the baby is born. How did you handle it?
Plus I really don't want to have to do a lot of shopping with a newborn, and my husband cannot be trusted to pick out even his OWN clothes, lol.
I'm not having a shower since we live 2300 miles away from everyone we know right now. I think if we get anything from friends and family it will be in the form of a gift card.

				ANSWER:
Have a trusted friend or family member go with you both to the ultrasound. Let the tech know that you want it to be a suprise to both of you but for the tech to let your friend know. Shopping can be done for you and it can be kept a secret from you until your little bundle arrives. I am sure the person you choose would be one of the people to visit you at the hospital and could bring you a few outfits to try on your new one for pictures and the ride home. They can also let others know and quite a few things can be tucked away for you without letting you know the secret.

			QUESTION:
Is gender-neutral baby gear "out"?
I've always thought I'd like to wait until birth to find out the gender of my baby, and just buy lots of white and green baby clothes, bedding, etc.
However, on all the baby shows I watch people go all-out pink or blue, and on this forum people suggest buying all the stuff you need after you find out the baby's gender at 20 weeks.
So if your second child is a different gender, do you spend tons of money on all-new baby gear of a new color?

What did you/ will you do with your baby?
It would make sense to buy cheap things, like clothes, in either pink or blue after the baby is born. I'm just confused about why you'd spend several hundred dollars on an all pink (or all blue) nursery, car seat, stroller, etc.

				ANSWER:
You can still find lots of gender neutral clothing, if you look around. I found tons of very cute beige, light blue (very cute on little girls too), dark earthy greens, etc. for my son. I then used most of his old baby clothes for my daughter when she came along.

The best thing you can do when you're preparing for a new baby is read lots of books and never, ever watch trendy baby television programs. They're just trends, and while a few people follow the wave of rampant consumerism, most people in the real world just do what works.

			QUESTION:
Did anyone cave and buy baby clothes before finding out the gender?
We find out the gender in a month, but these clothes were SO cute and SO incredibly priced that I couldn't resist. It was just 2 pieces-one is gender neutral-the other is a little more boyish but could easily be made be girly. I just couldn't resist-clothes like these are usually new and used and I got them new for and .

Anyone else cave?
Oh I know sometimes people don't find out the gender, this was geared more towards early pregnant women who intend on discovering the gender at an anatomy scan.

I thought it was a girl up until recently until everyone else said boy (with exception of my Father-in-law, but I think he is just saying girl because my MIL is saying boy LOL)

OMG the clothes were so cute! I couldn't resist!

				ANSWER:
we did! like you we got some boyish ones that could be made girly.. we have 3 girls and they wore them with a headband with a giant bow or flower on their head! and they looked adorable. we also bought some girl clothes and just kept the receipt so we could take them back or exchange them if it was a boy. & you got some AMAZING deals!! wow!

			QUESTION:
Should you name a baby a gender neutral name just in case they want a sex change later?
Me and my new husband LaTyrone are going to adopt an African American baby that needs a home. Being a Gay couple we want to teach our baby that he doesn't have to be afraid of his homosexuality and that he should be proud of it.

LaTyrone and I believe that babies should have gender neutral names so that if they decide to have gender reassignment surgery they can keep the name that their loving fathers gave them.

We were thinking of Sam DeShawn Tuirami for the baby's full name. Isn't that cute:)

We were thinking of getting him boys and girls clothes so that gender roles aren't forced upon him like his fathers had to go through.

				ANSWER:
Gender reassignment is a big deal (and completely separate from the homo/hetero/bi sexuality issue). Why would you want to set your child up for that?

Human sexuality is fluid, gender is not. If your child decides to go down that path then that's fine, but why confuse a young child with notions of gender reassignment before they even understand the concept of gender (it's not until 5 or 6 that they really get it, and even then...)

Gender and sexuality are an important part of your identity. Let your child define their own identity, it's not your call. And please be careful not to project your "stuff" on to the child (easier said than done, I know - we all have baggage - but as parents we must at least try)

As for gender roles, given your past experiences don't you think you could both be intelligent, mature and enlightened enough to demonstrate to your child that gender roles and sexuality are not the same thing? And that neither should be more important to you or anyone else than your humanity? All this gender and sexuality stuff is just labels. Mother, father, good, bad, white, black, class etc - aren't we all human before we are any of these things? And even before we call ourselves humans, aren't we all souls? Isn't it our spirit/soul that makes who we truly are? Isn't that a more important lesson to teach your child?

There's a bigger picture.

BTW: Sam is a cute name.
