     My daughter fit into her newborn outfits for about 30 seconds!!

     Best to buy 3-6 months for most use in the near future.

     My child is 6 weeks and at 22 inches too long for 3 months...her little toes get squished.

     Think about it...average baby weighs between 6 and 8 lbs...
     HEALTHY babies are expected to gain 1 oz or more a day (often more with breastfed babies)...so on average, in two weeks, a 7lb baby will be 9lbs. Some newborn stuff is for babies up to 7lbs, preemie stuff tends to be short and for babies 6lbs and under. If you (or the person you are buying for) has a baby that is 8lbs., they are already too big for newborn clothes. Carters, Children's Place and Target baby clothes seem to start at 12.5lbs for 6 months size. All babies are different, so just pay attention to the baby's size.

   How many newborn outfits should I have?
   I am 36 weeks and measuring small. She is about 2 weeks behind in size according to the ultrasound. (She weighs about 5 lbs 2 oz but should weigh 6). I have like 4 newborns outfits. All of the onsies and other clothes are 0-3 months. Will the 0-3 months be waaay too big or should I get more newborn clothes? Or should I not rely on the ultrasound/doctor?

     i would buy a 5-pack of newborn onesies as well. my daughter was born at 8 pounds and she fit newborn for 3 whole weeks. i would also buy 2-3 warm zip up sleepers. the outfits are cute but they can be uncomfortable for the baby.

     i would probably go to walmart and pick up 2-3 premie sized onesies ( each) as well if you think she will be 6 pounds. just for the first couple days. thats what i did for my daughter and it worked out perfectly.

     but dont buy too much of the newborn stuff, like i said, that size only lasts for a couple weeks. premie will only last for a couple days.

   How many newborn outfits/onezies are necessary?
   I'm about 7 and a half months pregnant and I want to know how many newborn outfits/onezies are a good amount to have? Also, how quickly do babies grow out of newborn size?

   • ANSWER:
     You have to change your newborn ALOT, so I would suggest having quite a few. But you just need a few going out outfits seeing as you don't usually go out a whole lot when they are that age. When my son was a newborn (in the spring) he wore mostly just onsies r night gowns. Oh and SOCKS. Get lots and lots of those...they are so hard to keep track of LOL.

     As far as how fast they grow out of them, it depends on the baby. My nephew never really fit into newborn size clothing, but my son had to wear premie clothes for the first month and then wore newborn until he was almost 3 months old (and yes, he was full term), so it just depends on the baby, how big they are and how quickly they grow.

     I would advise getting plenty of newborn size clothes, but leave the tags on them. Then if it seems like the baby will grow out of them quickly, just use what you need and trade the rest in for the next size up.

   How many newborn outfits should I buy?
   I am due August 17th. It will still be pretty hot here in aug and sept and I don't know if i need shorts or pants or how many of each I need. I am ordering most of the clothes online ahead of time and i have no clue what to get. i know about having plenty of pj's and gowns but I'm at a loss for clothes. Also apprx. how many 3-6 month outfits should i buy as well?

     Things like this are great , they can wear them to sleep or out for a stroll in the summer months. I would by 5 pairs on one-piece short sleeve outfits and 5 pairs of long sleeve ones in each size. Old navy also has cute sweatpants...

5. QUESTION:
   How many outfits for a newborn?
   How many outfits for a newborn do you think I should get? I hear they grown out of them so fast, so I don't want to go overboard on newborn clothes and only have the baby wear them once and then need to buy bigger. Obviously I don't want to have to do laundry every day either. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

     Figure on about 20 onsies since you'll want to have baby wear those under his day and night clothes.
     maybe 3 to 4 outfits.
     7 to 10 sleep and play
     2 or 3 sleep sacks
     2 to 3 mittens
     10 pair socks

     It's kind of hard to guess how often you'll be changing baby. In the beginning their systems are still coming "online" so they'll have messy blow out diapers and plenty of spit up that will cause you to change their clothing (and yours) much more often then you would believe.
     Personally I would stay away from the "newborn" sized clothing and use the 0-3 month sized clothing unless your baby is born near a holiday and you want to get a special outfit that fits well.
